How to Fold a Bandsaw Blade in 5 Seconds (VIDEO)

Written by Milan D. | 17+ Years CNC & CAD/CAM Specialist

Just replaced your bandsaw blade and can't figure out how to fold or pack the old one for storage? Here is the foolproof 3-ring coil trick every machinist needs to know.

Staring at a giant, springy steel loop covered in sharp teeth can be intimidating, but packing a bandsaw blade down into three manageable rings takes nearly zero force once you learn the technique.

⚠️ Safety First & Legal Disclaimer: Always wear thick leather gloves and eye protection. A steel blade under spring tension can inflict serious cuts if released suddenly. Machining Tutor assumes no responsibility or liability for any injury or equipment damage resulting from blade handling.

Step-by-Step: The Foolproof 3-Ring Coil Method

1. Check Tooth Orientation: Pick up the blade and ensure the teeth are pointing away from your body.

2. Position on the Floor: Set the bottom curve of the blade loop on the ground.

3. Anchor the Base: Place your safety-booted foot over the bottom of the loop to anchor it securely.

4. Grab the top of the blade, and rotate it horizontally by around 360° while pushing the top curve downward toward your foot, allowing the loop to flex naturally.

5. As the top drops, the sides will automatically cross into three clean, overlapping rings. Gather all three loops together with your gloved hand and immediately secure them with a piece of wire, a cable tie, or heavy tape to prevent the blade from springing back open.
